Minimum Education Requirement (Natural Resources Discipline): Applicants must meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:

A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Education Requirement (Physical Sciences Discipline):

A degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience of additional education.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

Special Placement Factor: This position requires licensing, certification, or registration by the appropriate federal, state, or local agency, in order for the employee to perform and certify environmental inquiries. Incumbent is required to meet the 40 CFR Part 312 definition of "Environmental Professional." Specifically, the incumbent must possess one of the following qualifications: 1. Hold a current Professional Engineer's (P.E.) or Professional Geologist's (P.G.) license or registration from a state, tribe, or U.S. territory and has the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time relevant experience; or 2. Be licensed or certified by the federal government, a state, tribe or U.S. territory to perform environmental inquiries as defined in 40 CFR 312.21 and has the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time relevant experience; or 3. Has a Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution of higher education in science or engineering and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time relevant experience; or 4. Has the equivalent of ten (10) years of full-time relevant experience.

In addition to meeting Basic Education and the Special Placement Factor, applicants must have specialized experience or additional education as defined below: GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Definition of Specialized Experience: To meet specialized experience, your resume must describe experience that demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities as follows: GS-12: Professional experience identifying and evaluating hazardous materials issues and problems; serving as a project manager or study team leader for projects and investigations in the areas of hazardous waste and environmental compliance; interpreting and providing guidance on hazardous materials rules and regulations; preparing environmental documentation for hazardous waste activities. These examples are not all inclusive.

This position has a mandatory education requirement; you must furnish copy of your transcript of college work completed (unofficial copy is acceptable). Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission may result in you being rated not qualified for the position.
