On Tuesday, Occupy San Francisco demonstrators gathered outside of City Hall before a Board of Supervisors meeting to protest Mayor Ed Lee's refusal to support the Occupy Wall Street movement, according to SF Weekly.
Lee has stated that, while he "fully supports the spirit of the protest," he does not support the public camping. Consequentially, SFPD has routinely raided the Occupy San Francisco tent camp without the mayor's intervention. At the protest on Tuesday, Lee stated that the camps were raided as a public safety issue, and that he was only upholding city laws that prohibit public camping. Supervisor John Avalos denounced Lee's stance, arguing that First Amendment rights should take precedence over park codes about public camping, according to the Examiner.
Not surprisingly, demonstrators were less than satisfied. Thus, Occupy San Francisco released the "Why Ed Why" poster (pictured at left). The poster is a modified version of the one used in the "Run Ed Run" campaign -- a highly controversial grassroots campaign that encouraged Lee to run for mayor. The funding behind the group was questioned by the media and opposing groups.
The poster depicts Lee wearing a police helmet and baton, suggesting that he encourages the police raids that have been called "brutal" by Occupy San Francisco.
