As a kid,, I would run from room to room,,, and I learned pretty quick.
In the kitchen,, you had the women talking about cooking, recipes,, how to do this and that. Get under foot, get their attention,,, and they would give you something to eat to get you out of thier way.
But right beside them, at the dining room table,,, were a pack of women who folded napkins or some such,,, and they spent their time talking about church (not religion - church), the people who were not there, what she said, what she answered, etc. etc. etc. The fvcking magpie gang,, "Oh, so nice to see you here, how's your mom, they are out back." As soon as they would leave,,, "He really is doing the best he can, considering his momma was sleeping with that guy, and he got left alone at night in that beat up old house her daddy stole from my uncle in a poker game."
Out back, was always a group of men by an old car or truck,, talking about cars and or sports,, at the same time.
A bunch of the old guys,,, were on the porch talking about politics,,, and it could get heated on occasion. But,, order was maintained by manners, age, and who sat where at the lodge meeting.
In the den was always a bunch of games,, with kids and those young at heart,,,
and the parlor,, was where the bible was,, and you didn't go in there unless you wanted to trade 10 minutes of geing witnessed to in order to get a piece of candy from your grandmother.
There was always some place where someone was getting relationship advice,,,, and they would run us kids off as soon as one got close,,, so I can only assume part of that was advice about adult matters as well.
Now,, I never saw any ugliness in the parlor with the bible gang,,, but then again,,,,,, no one ever went in there and told them they were full of shit and ignorant. I'd remembered that,,,
as I would have been the look out for the sherrif while the men who were out by the cars were digging a hole behind the barn,,, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of putting a 400 crank in a 350,, the wish bone or power I,, and the best way to use a matock cause someone was doing it all wrong,,, or the hard way.
